Official Hardware Specifications Matrix
Unlike 2D farming simulations, Petit Planet utilizes a custom proprietary 3D engine that renders dynamic spherical planetoid geometry, real-time water mesh deformation, volumetric starry clouds, and persistent multiplayer instancing.
๐ฅ๏ธ PC (Windows)
โ Beta VerifiedNote: DirectX 11 or 12 compatible. SSD strongly recommended for fast planetoid terraform loading.
Note: Enables 60+ FPS at 1080p/1440p with high planetary foliage, dynamic water reflections, and smooth Starsea transitions.
๐ iOS (Apple)
โ Beta VerifiedNote: iPhone XR is explicitly restricted in beta due to 3 GB RAM memory ceiling limitations.
Note: Provides 60 FPS gameplay with high rendering scale and prevents thermal throttling during extended co-op sessions.
๐ค Android (Mobile)
โ Beta VerifiedNote: Requires OpenGLES 3.2 or Vulkan 1.1 support.
Note: Enables maximum particle effects in the Starsea and stable 60 FPS in dense player gatherings at the Galactic Bazaar.
Key Architectural Bottlenecks & Optimization Tips
1. The Spherical Mesh Streaming Requirement (Storage Speed)
Because the player's planet is rendered as a continuous curved sphere rather than tiled square chunks, the game constantly streams terrain LOD (Level of Detail) meshes as you circle the planet. While an HDD will boot the game, installing on an NVMe M.2 or SATA SSD eliminates brief visual pop-in when terraforming large river networks.
2. Mobile RAM Ceilings (The iPhone XR Restriction)
One of the most frequently asked questions during the Coziness Test was why the iPhone XR (which features the A12 Bionic chip) was blocked from test eligibility, whereas the iPhone XS was supported. Both devices share the same SoC, but the iPhone XR features only 3 GB of RAM, compared to 4 GB on the XS.
When transitioning from your home planet into the open Starsea, the client must buffer both the home planetary state and the procedurally loaded space islets simultaneously. 3 GB devices encounter Out-of-Memory (OOM) operating system kills.
3. Graphics Settings Recommendations for 60 FPS
If your rig is close to the minimum specification threshold, adjusting the following in-game settings yields the largest performance improvements with minimal visual penalty:
- Volumetric Cloud Quality: Lowering from Ultra to Medium reduces GPU shader load by ~18% with negligible impact on ambient starlight lighting.
- Dynamic Water Physics: Set to Medium if you have constructed extensive multi-tiered waterfalls on your planet.
- Crowd Density (Galactic Bazaar): Reducing concurrent displayed player avatars from "Unlimited" to "Nearby (20)" prevents framerate drops when visiting crowded trade hubs.
Persistent Internet Requirement
As with HoYoverseโs other cross-platform titles, Petit Planet requires a continuous broadband or mobile internet connection. Player inventories, planet layouts, neighbor friendship progression, and Galactic Bazaar trading data are synchronized with official cloud servers to prevent data corruption and support seamless cross-progression between PC and mobile.
